Reflections & Transformations: Violinist Yixuan Lai and Pianist Sophia Su

SCAC presents a concert featuring two classical musicians from the University or Arizona in Tucson: Violinist Yixuan Lai and pianist Sophia Su. Admission is $15 or $10 for SCAC members.

Their program will explore transformation through memory, lyricism, and emotional contrast across more than two centuries of violin repertoire. Moving from the elegance and intimacy of Beethoven and Dvorak to the deeply personal voices of Clara Schumann and Edward W. Hardy, the first half reflects on the violin’s ability to convey both warmth and individuality across changing musical eras.

Following intermission, Debussy’s Violin Sonata introduces a world of shifting color, fragility, and expressive freedom, while Proko fiev’s Second Violin Sonata brings rhythmic vitality and dramatic intensity to the program’s conclusion. Together, these works trace a journey through reflection, transformation, and evolving artistic identity, balancing intimacy with virtuosity and tradition with modern expression.
