About SCAC

The Sierra County Arts Council is a 501 c 3 non-profit group located in Truth or Consequences, NM. We are dedicated to supporting artistic and cultural diversity through community partnerships and to provide educational, artistic and cultural opportunities to all Sierra County residents. Founded in 1996, the Arts Council’s inception was to facilitate the construction of Las Palomas Fountain ceramic sculpture in downtown Truth or Consequences. Since then we have created and supported numerous arts-related events and projects benefiting the communities in Sierra County, New Mexico.

The Arts Council works to create public art installations like "Joy", a recycled steel steer sculpture designed by R. Wm Winkler, and the "Truth Monument" joined the colorful ceramic Las Palomas Fountain in Truth or Consequences’ historic district. The Council also sponsored the Carol Plec memorial sculpture in the Healing Waters Plaza at 300 Daniels in the downtown area. The 11 foot tall sculpture is titled The Tower of Her Sun.

During the first three months of the year our annual Art Talks Lectures series features local and regional artists speaking about their careers in art. RioBravoFineArt Gallery hosts these lectures.

The Arts Council sponsors music performances in several spaces in the county. Pickamania, an annual acoustic music series in the nearby mountain community of Kingston, happens every early September. The Music Mix classical music series showcases local and regional classical music at Grapes Gallery.

The Arts Council awards annual scholarships to Hot Springs High School graduating seniors pursuing a careers in the Arts.

The Sierra County Artists Directory, an annual publication in its 23rd year, features artists, arts locations, musicians, healing artists, hot springs spas and lodges and other art-related activities.
